Movies About Yoga (Yogi Movie Night)

What are your movies that every Yogi should see? Doesn’t have to be a documentary on yoga itself but something either entertaining or enlightening.

Eat Pray Love (2010)

Okay, you know I had to start with the obvious one here.

Awake: The Life of Yogananda (2014)

Little Buddha (1993)

On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace (2017)

Yoga Unveiled” (2004)

Fed Up (2014)

Wild (2014)

I prefer the book but the movie is still great.

+1 for Wild! Cheryl’s physical experience on the Pacific Crest Trail mirrors what happens on our yoga mats, sometimes we need to strip everything away and just be present with the discomfort to find clarity. If you’re new to yoga, this movie might help you understand that the practice isn’t just about flexibility, but about walking through difficulty with presence and grace.

If you’re not new, it’s still a great movie.

Breath of the Gods about T. Krishnamacharya, it made me realize how much of modern yoga stems from this ONE incredible teacher who taught both gentle therapeutic approaches and the dynamic Ashtanga style we know today. After watching it, I found myself reading into his teachings, including some interesting archival footage showing him demonstrating advanced pranayama techniques that most of us have never heard of in typical studio classes.

Watching Little Buddha with my yoga class was suchhh a beautiful experience, the way it weaves together the story of Prince Siddhartha with modern day seekers totally mirrors our own way on the mat! It’s one of those films that makes you want to sit in lotus position and just breeeeathe afterwards, sooo perfect for understanding the deeper spiritual roots of our practice

Hey yogis, you know what? Even Kung Fu Panda teaches solid yoga philosophy, ‘Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift!’

You got this moment right NOW! That panda’s way from clumsy beginner to finding inner peace? That’s YOUR way on the mat! Don’t let anyone tell you animated movies can’t inspire your practice.
