Anyone Found Good Yoga Shorts for Men?

My fiancé is trying to get more into yoga, but is having a really hard time finding shorts that work for him.

Been searching everywhere for decent men’s yoga shorts with built-in liners that aren’t super lon,g seems like everything out there is either 7 inch or longer, which feels like he’s wearing pants in hot yoga. Lululemon used to be my go to but their quality has gone downhill and the prices keep going up. I tried checking out alo but they don’t even make anything in a shorter length for guys, has anyone found any good brands that make actual short shorts for men with liners? Bonus points if they’re not crazy expensive and actually hold up after multiple washes.

We all know why the guys market in yoga is underserved but it doesn’t need to be some fancy brand, just something that actually lets him practice comfortably.

Since he wants built-in liners AND shorter lengths, that’s a tricky combo. The Yoga Crow Swerve shorts have a mesh liner and hit right above the knee at 7 inches, but sounds like that’s still too long for what he’s looking for. My friend has them and they’ve “antimicrobial tech” (whatever that means) but he says they stay fresh even with his hot yoga routine.

If he’s willing to go without a liner (and you’re willing to give the brand another try) the Lululemon Pace Breaker comes in a 5-inch length (they also have 7 and 9)… Yeah they’re pricey at $68 but the quality is solid for hot yoga, super lightweight and the sweat-wicking is on point.

For budget options, these are only $19 and while they’re 8 inches and kinda more like basketball shorts, some of my male students actually prefer that looser fit for certain poses. Just heads up they’re pretty see-through since they’re mesh but the price is right.

Honestly, the men’s market for yoga gear is still catching up, but I’ve noticed more guys in my classes just wearing regular athletic shorts with compression shorts underneath - might be worth trying if the liner requirement isn’t set in stone.

The most important thing is making sure they move with you naturally, he shouldn’t feel any pinching or restriction when he’s settling into those deeper stretches.

With shorts (and even leggings sometimes), I think they can take a little breaking in. How they feel on day one might not be the same as day 30. Sometimes shorts can feel perfectly fine when you first put them on, but once you start moving through your practice, they might shift in ways that don’t quite work.

The guys in my studio seem to use the Lululemons or just whatever they have lying around at home if they’re not picky.

My boyfriend loves the Yoga Addict shorts for hot yoga (they have the built in liner) and they’ve held up incredibly well through countless washes only slight fading on the waistband after months of use.

Guys shorts seem to have problems finding good clothing which is really made for yoga and the lighter colors might be too transparent so I would suggest using the darker colors.

Just stumbled across Dragonfly brand while looking for pole fitness gear turns out they actually make men’s shorts too and they’re designed for hot activities like Bikram, so maybe worth checking out since they understand the whole sweaty-movement-flexibility thing we deal with in heated classes?

Vuori might be a good option if he doesn’t want Lulu (though I don’t think they’re bad quality for guys either). Yes, they were an investment piece, but the performance is incredible. They have the built in liner and a 5’ length so it shouldn’t ride up during twisted poses and they last a few years with proper care.

He’s going to absolutely love the Fabletics Fundamental Shorts II with the liner! Most comfortable thing for guys right now (they really do get the short straw)

There’s the Vuori Kore shorts? I got them for badminton originally but I use them for my practice more than anything else.

I can second Lulu’s guys range. I do agree that the womens range of quality has gone down hill a bit but most of my guy friends who are serious about their practice have all slowly moved towards them.

Oh you’ve gotta check out those bhujang pants from Cobra! They’re seriously amazing for practice super comfy and they move with you through every asana. Been wearing mine for months and they’re still going strong

Oh I actually found some great shorter ones from… wait what was that brand… Public something?

There’s also prAna they have these 5 inch shorts with liners that my partner swears by for hot yoga. I kept mixing them up with Public Rec at first (which makes more athletic stuff), but prAna specifically has a few men’s styles that run shorter than the usual 7 inch standard. They’re not super cheap but definitely wash better than the Lulu stuff we used to buy, and actually no wait, I think we found them on sale at that Everyday Yoga site that carries a bunch of different brands!

Also here obviously:

Have you tried Yoga Crow yet? I think they’re better known in NYC but they might be one of the best brands for men right now.

Honestly, the women’s 5 inch running shorts with built in liners from Target’s All in Motion line work AMAZINGLY for men’s yoga my partner tried them after getting frustrated with the same long shorts issue and they’re perfect for hot yoga! The liner keeps “everything” secure during inversions and they’re only like $20, plus they’ve lasted through countless washes without losing their stretch!

Sometimes the best yoga gear comes from thinking outside the traditional ‘men’s section’ box I guess. Poor guys don’t get much choice really.

Ten Thousand makes these amazing Session Shorts with a 5 inch inseam that have been perfect for hot yoga they even have a zippered pocket which is clutch for keeping my locker key secure during practice. The liner situation is solid too, everything stays where it should without feeling restrictive when you’re flowing through those deeper hip openers chef’s kiss

Nike yoga pants are my boyfriend’s absolute favorite for practice. Amazing support through poses like crow pose and twisted triangle, plus the side pockets are perfect for keeping props nearby during restorative sequences (or holding my car key if he doesn’t know the studio).

He’s tried Lululemon, but Nike’s flexibility and durability win every time, especially when doing something like going from warrior III to standing splits. The waistband stays put through inversions too, and a lot of guys really don’t want to have to adjust their clothes during a class because it can make people… uncomfortable..

It’s more than just shorts he needs to worry about. Men’s yoga clothes in general are… lacking. They don’t have enough good brands.
